Seasonality: What it Means for Your Gut and How to Navigate it
Seasonality is all the range at the minute but figuring it out can take some time....
Put simply, eating seasonally means eating foods that are naturally in harvest at specific times of years. This type of eating means that when you eat food it is at its most flavourful, but beyond this, it is at its most nutritious.
Eating with the seasons can make a huge difference to your gut microbiome. Whilst keeping in season is beneficial to keep in sync with nature’s rhythms, each season brings with it a variety of different types of natural compounds, fibre, and nutrients, and this diversity promotes a healthy, diverse gut biome.
How can we eat seasonally with ease?
Whilst seasonal eating can be a pain, there are so many tools available to promote these practices. Different organisations, such as BBC Good Food and the National Trust offer food calendars via their websites.
From the calendars, it is easy to play around with seasonal foods to create some delicious recipes.
Given that beetroot and radish are in season, why not give this delicious salad a go (although we’d recommend swapping out the walnuts for our activated nuts and needs to maximise the gut benefits)
Or, with new potatoes in season, why not try this recipe, and keep the potato skins on for extra gut benefits. Again, you might also like to try adding in some of our nuts and seeds for an added boost!
